Edit PNG Metadata

Inspect metadata stored inside a PNG image, update descriptive, camera, capture-time, or optional GPS fields, or remove personal metadata without changing compressed image data.

  • Files stay on your device.
  • Processed locally in your browser.
  • No uploads. No storage.

Edit Metadata inspects JPG, PNG, and WebP metadata and updates supported EXIF fields without re-encoding compressed image data.

Separate privacy actions remove location data or common personal metadata while retaining rendering-related color information.

What you can do

  • Review current values and whether each output field will be kept, changed, or removed.
  • Add, edit, remove, and restore description, rights, camera, capture-time, and optional GPS EXIF fields.
  • Remove GPS and the complete XMP packet, or strip personal metadata while preserving image and rendering data.

Before you start

  • Removing location also removes the XMP packet because location can be duplicated inside it.
  • User-entered camera and capture values are descriptive metadata, not verified provenance.
  • JPEG scan data, PNG IDAT data, WebP image and animation chunks, and rendering-related color profiles are preserved.

How it works

  1. Choose the PNG image whose metadata you want to inspect.
  2. Review current and pending output fields, edit supported EXIF values, or choose a privacy-removal action.
  3. Download the updated PNG image without re-encoding its image data.

Common questions

Can I remove GPS location from a photo?

Yes. The location action removes GPS EXIF data and the XMP packet, where location information may also be stored.

Will removing metadata change image quality?

No. JPEG scan data, PNG IDAT data, and WebP image or animation chunks remain unchanged. Rendering-related color profiles and format structure are retained.

Which image formats support metadata editing?

JPG, PNG, and WebP are supported. VaultIMG updates their metadata containers locally while preserving compressed image data, transparency, color profiles, and WebP animation chunks.
